DUPONTTM TEFLON® – DELIGHTED TO SPONSOR OLNEY PANCAKE RACE AGAIN
DuPontTM Teflon® has increased its sponsorship of the Olney Pancake Race following a very successful first year in 2011. This year the innovators in non-stick cookware will be providing a number of new features and attractions for participants and spectators alike at Olney.
The traditional race will be run as usual. Bearing in mind the potential for cold or rainy weather, this year DuPontTM Teflon® is sponsoring a heated marquee at the start point where the runners will register and where the press and others associated with the event can gather beforehand.
The marquee will provide a focus for attention throughout the day, hosting a variety of activities, including celebrity entertainment and exciting competitions. It will of course also provide a warm and sheltered place to sit and eat pancakes!
After the service, the marquee will be the gathering place for the awards ceremony which is now to take place in the afternoon. This year the race winner will take home a brand new and very beautiful silver trophy with engraving, as well as a Tiffany crystal keepsake trophy for the race winner to cherish forever! Both these are sponsored by DuPontTM Teflon®.
Thanks to DuPontTM Teflon®, there will also be other extra prizes to be won this year. The winner will receive £250 in prize money plus an extra £100 if Olney beats this year’s winning time in Liberal USA! There will also be
cash prizes of £50 for second and £25 for third-placed runner. As usual there will additionally be special prizes for the most senior participant and a consolation prize for last place.
This year a special prize will recognize the runner who raises the most for charity, as well as a new “fastest first timer” category, open to anyone running the race for the first time.
So if you are finally old enough, or a recent resident in Olney and have never had a go, this year is the time to throw your kerchief in the ring, and get flipping down the High Street on 21 February!
Each registered participant this year will sport bold and eye-catching new livery, which they will be able to keep after the race.
The new livery comprises matching kerchiefs and half-aprons, made from DuPontTM Teflon® fabric, which is excellent quality and durable. With its strong blue and white check design will make the runners instantly recognizable and will be visible throughout the event. The runners’ attire also includes the usual shirt, bearing the sponsor’s logo and the symbol of the race.
DuPontTM Teflon® are also this year providing the non-stick pans which the runners will run with and which they can also keep as a souvenir. Even the children who take part in the kids races starting at 10am will receive DuPontTM Teflon® aprons and matching kerchiefs and brand new non-stick frypans!
So with various innovations this year, designed to build on an established formula going back centuries, hopes are high that this year’s Olney Pancake Race will be the best ever – let’s just hope for a repeat of last year’s sunny weather!
But please register to run NOW! Remember that there is a limit on how many can run.
Registration takes place on a first come, first served basis - so don’t delay, do it today. Register for the Olney Pancake Race and be part of the fun in 2012 - the Diamond Jubilee Year and the year London is to host that other sporting event that’s almost as well-known - the Olympic Games!
PANCAKE RACE DAY: February 21st 2012
As a follow up to last month’s short reminder that Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day is on Tuesday 21st February. The Pancake Race Committee want to remind potential runners that entry forms will be available at the NatWest Bank from 10th January and as we can only accommodate 25 runners it is very much on a first come first serve basis, so if you are intending to enter, please get your signed entry form back to the NatWest Bank as soon as possible. Don’t forget there are prizes for all with the winner guaranteed to pick up £250 plus another £100 if she runs a faster time than the winner in Liberal U.S.A. The lady running and raising the most money for her chosen charity will get £75 extra to add to her total .
Ousedale School [Olney Campus] have agreed to join in on the day providing young people to run a tea and coffee stall in the marquee, proceeds to go to the Olney Newton Link Charity, help cook and serve pancakes, help distributing programmes and provide musical entertainment in the marquee.
All three Olney Schools will be represented in the Childrens Races due to start at 10.00 a.m. outside the NatWest Bank.
THE MAIN RACE STARTS AT 11.55 A.M. OUTSIDE THE BULL INN
Immediately after the race the Shriving Service is held in the Parish Church lead by our Rector Rev. Claire Wood, with the shriving sermon being given by Geoff Colmer from the Babtist Church. At the end of the service after the Official Presentation of the Olney and
Liberal Prizes it is hoped that the runners and congregation will process back to the Market Place for the main Prizegiving Ceremony in the Marquee due to start at 1.45 p.m. followed by the Pancake Raffle Draw
We are confident of a big turn-out for this years’ race and with the prospect of a well known T.V. Celebrity Chef entertaining us in the Marquee we are likely to get really good Press and T.V. coverage. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and we can all enjoy another great day for the Town.
OH! JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN THE DATE IS TUESDAY FEBRUARY 21st.
