THE CLOCK MASTER
Professional theatre comes to Denton – again!
Keep this date free! – Sunday 22nd May 2011
Following the outstanding success, last October, of New Perspectives theatre Company’s performance of ‘Farm Boy’, (adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s novel
of the same name, and which is the prequel to ‘War Horse), we are once again delighted to be having another professional theatre company coming to perform in Denton Village Hall. this is brought to us through the Northants touring arts program.
Date: Sunday 22nd May, 2011
time: 7.00pm
Venue: Denton Village Hall, Vicarage Lane, Denton, NN7 1Dt
the Show is presented by Sparkle and Dark’s travelling Players and is called ‘the Clock Master’.
When a stubborn young girl enters a shop of clockwork wonders, she soon finds herself lost amongst the Clock Master's strange stories of magic and music boxes! Of minstrels and monkeys! Of clockwork girls and paper birds! Yet there is a real twist in the tale when she discovers the true nature of her own
mysterious trinket: a broken pocket watch. What will she decide to do?
Suitable for everyone aged 5 years and upwards, 'the Clock Master' is a visually enchanting modern fable dealing with the eternal themes of ownership and inner beauty. performed with live music, projected animation, ensemble storytelling and moments of mild puppet-peril!
WOrKSHOP:
We also hope to run a Puppet-making workshop in the afternoon on the same day, designed to tie in with the show, where particpants get the chance to make and keep a copy of one of the puppets used in the show – Bruiser the Dog, a michievous but loveable mutt!

A successful grant from the government!
Here at tHe Olney- Newton Link we are getting excited! News came through last week that our 3 link primary school head teachers have successfully got visas to visit the schools here in Olney. On the 18th May Mrs Sheriff, Mrs Usmann and Komba Nfali will arrive in Heathrow for the start of their 10 day stay with us. Fingers crossed for good weather!
Mrs Usmann will be visiting Olney Infants School, Komba will be based with Olney Middle and Mrs Sherriff at Lavendon Primary. all 3 have hosted visitors from the UK last October- all funded by a DFID reciprocal Visit grant which encourages UK schools to link with schools in the developing world. the schools will be sharing resources, cultural thoughts and ideals as well as being involved in cross- curricular ideas. Certainly when Mrs Howe (Lavendon), Mrs Watkins (Olney Middle) and Mrs White (Olney Infants) visited Sierra Leone in October they shared many ideas including skipping and the intricacies of cricket as well as discussing teaching ideas and resources with their counterparts.
the timing of their visit means that they should be able to attend the Link aGM- Sutcliffe Baptist Church May 18th 7.30pm see separate poster!- even if they can only stay for a short while as it is the day they arrive. If they have the same level of culture shock as we do going the other way it will take a while for them to adjust. But please do come along to say Hello, show the warmth of the Olney welcome and listen to their initial impressions of the town and the country.
Other Link news- the fundraising continues to support our other projects. the Secondary school girl’s toilets collapsed- a huge hole appeared and threatened to swallow the entire structure! Money has been sent to repair these as well as complete the building of toilet facilities at the Health Centre. Can you imagine a health centre without toilets?! the skills centre nears completion ready for the Grand Opening which is currently pencilled in for June. the latest from the Newton committee secretary is that the furniture is built and they are in the process of fitting out the centre ready for the first crop of students. 4 more computers were collected from Freetown a couple of weeks ago which will soon be installed once the final finishing touches are completed inside. Pictures of the completed centre and details of the Launching Ceremony will be shared with all our supporters as soon as we receive them.
a HUGe thank you to everyone who shares in our work- keep an eye out for events during the coming months. If you want to keep up to date log on to the website www.olneynewtonlink.org.uk or why not be a friend on Facebook at Olneynewtonlink?
