Devon Byrne of Olney and member of Marshall Milton Keynes Athletics Club had her first International competition in the Pentathlon (five events) at Kelvin Hall, Glasgow on Sunday 6th February.
Devon qualified by coming 4th at the English Schools Heptathlon (seven events) final at Stoke in September. A former member of Sharnbrook Upper School Devon is now on a Sports Scholarship for her 6th Form at Rugby School.
Despite having a cold Devon had a personal best in the shot putt with 9.73m and then went on to do 60m Hurdles in 10.00 secs despite hitting the first hurdle. High jumping 1.5m, Long
Jumping 4.7m and finally ran the 800m in 2min 29.4 with an overall points personal best of 3024. This put her in 6th place overall and the England team won with Ireland 2nd, Wales 3rd and hosts Scotland 4th.
Devon is now focusing on her preparation for the summer as she enters the U20 age group. She has already competed at the UK U20's championships in January where she came a creditable 6th also.
A big thank you to the support of her coaches at the athletics club and to Sport MK who awarded her a £300 bursary to go towards her warm weather training in Portugal at the end of March.
