news. I mainly remember November due to that terrifying ‘Be careful with sparklers’ advert from when I was a kid (The little girl with the paralyzing scream who ends up with a hand bandaged up like she’s been on a tour of Vietnam).
Well I’m pleased to say that I’m just about over that now, I find vodka on my cornflakes has fixed the sparkler phobia flashbacks and to celebrate I thought I’d look for an alternative way of viewing fireworks in our area. As I write this I’m a touch on the hungover side, the lure of Newport Pagnell’s

The Cannon Newport Pagnell Every Thursday – FREE!
As the winter starts to kick in I’m finding it even harder to get off the sofa on a midweek evening. The exception however is a Thursday night when Jeff Sewell and Gary Murphy combine to lead their Open Mic night in the Sunset lounge at the back of the Cannon in Newport Pagnell.
have to do is stick your name down and wait for your introduction and this night offers both new comers and well known acts the perfect platform to perform and build a name for themselves.

If you want a seat for the night then turn up early because it gets busy quickly! The night starts from 8pm onwards and is completely free. The bar girl even remembers your order, which is useful as the night progresses if you get what I mean.
This special night continues to grow in popularity with musicians and singers encouraged to perform and jam to the friendly, open minded crowd with no sign of attitude. A smell of incense hangs in the air whilst the ambience of the venue instantly creates a laid back

It is true to say that this night is easily one of Newport Pagnell’s most popular events playing host to some of the areas best talent. The beauty of the night is that everyone is given equal opportunity to express themselves without having to feel overpowered by some of the more familiar acts. The last night I went to, regulars from the crowd would step up to the stage and start jamming with percussion - the night has a real Open Mic family feel to itl. This is reinforced further with the Open Mic guest book that you can leave your comments in.
Last time I checked the TV guide for a Thursday night I found this; What Katie did next - ‘A nervous Katie Price prepares to watch her husband Alex Reid enter the ring for one of the biggest fights of his career. When the bout is over, she helps Alex nurse his wounds and adjust to life without a gruelling training schedule’
