Fairtrade Fortnight 2010
AS PART OF the Fairtrade promotion, Fairtrade Fortnight has been celebrated around the country with many promotions between February 22nd and March 7th.
The launch of this year’s activities was performed by the Mayor of Milton Keynes, Cllr Euan Henderson, and was entitled The Big Swap, encouraging people to swap their buying habits to Fairtrade, even if it is just the tea or coffee that we drink. The opening venue was the Stony Stratford Beer Festival and throughout the period many different activities took place in schools, churches and local community centres within the Borough of Milton Keynes.
The last event of the fortnight was a presence at the Olney Farmer’s Market on Sunday 7th March, with a Fairtrade Stall and information about Fairtrade products and producers.
The Mayor of Olney, Cllr. Mike Hughes was asked to close Fairtrade Fortnight and is seen offering his congratulations to Helen Casey-Green of Fairtrade Forum and also to those who
perform such sterling work for such a worthwhile cause ensuring a better standard of living for so many, where often ensuring any standard of living can become a major issue of survival.
