Out with the Old, In with the New
The League of Friends of Paganell Grange held an Extraordinary General Meeting on 26th January at which the members agreed to disband the League. The decision has been taken for administrative reasons and the Committee, having studied the various options available, recommended that the League be disbanded. As many of you probably know the nursing home which we support changed both its name and ownership last year, and this has presented us with an opportunity to improve the efficiency of our fund raising which necessitates a change of status. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters, including the many local businesses, who have supported us over the years.
However, this isn’t the end, merely a new beginning, as a new organisation, called the Friends of Westbury Grange, will be starting up soon. There will be an inaugural meeting of the Friends of Westbury Grange starting at 7.00pm on Tuesday 2nd March in the Coffee Lounge in Westbury Grange on Westbury Lane, Newport Pagnell - please feel free to come along and help to support our residents.

HAVE YOUR SAY
Letters
Dear Editor
In response to February’s Mercury report, in which the Mayor is quoted to have said:
“...it wasn't even clear if the people of Olney even wanted a bypass.” Can I say that the results of a Lib Dem Focus survey show that in two thirds of the replies, people would like a bypass for Olney. The survey was conducted recently and went to a thousand homes in the town!
I thought that Jim Middleton's words: “Olney has probably the best case for a bypass anywhere in England” made a strong case for the project!
Times Past
I was only a lad in nineteen thirty eight When people were happy and free
In an island in which they knew to be great And the air was as fresh as the sea
It seemed the thing then to be content To work hard be honest and fair
And have joy in the day well spent
For the deceitful and lazy were rare
Folks lived their lives at a leisurely pace Thought the pleasures of some were but few Most everyone wore a smile on their face And had a heart that was both good and true
Cattle grazed in fields of green
And sheep would be safe in a flock
The farmer with pony and trap could be seen And no door need you trouble to lock
The night sky glistened with millions of stars Until pollution obscured them from view When farm horses outnumbered the cars And the wireless was something quite new
When the byways were all but deserted One could walk in the dark without fear Then the laws of the land were asserted At a tme that we all held most dear
