MILTON KEYNES CITY ORCHESTRA & THE OPEN UNIVERSITY CHOIR
40TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT
The Open University will celebrate its 40th Anniversary with a concert performed at Milton Keynes Theatre on Sunday 28th June. Sian Edwards will conduct the Milton Keynes City Orchestra in an exciting concert featuring The Open University Choir performing a new work by Jonathan Willcocks, In the beginning, which was commissioned for the choir as part of the OU Millennium Celebrations. The concert will open with Beethovenʼs Overture Fidelio and close with a second choral piece, Beethovenʼs epic Symphony no.9,Op.125 in D minor, featuring soloists Angela Caesar, Fiona Kimm, Andrew MacKenzie- Wick and David Kirby-Ashmore.
Commenting on the Willcocks work, performed only once before, Sian Edwards said, “In the beginning is a seductive, rich work for chorus, soprano soloist and orchestra that embodies the open vocal writing and georgeous harmony at the centre of the English choral tradition. We are delighted that Angela Caesar will join us as soprano soloist for this piece.”

Fat Larryʼs is taking over the Function Room at the Bull Inn in Olney. Presenting Stand up comedy and other light entertainment, this entertainment club has its inaugural night on Thursday 18th June when it will be presenting the best of stand up comedians both from near and far as it combines the best of local talent together with comedians from London & other major city circuits.
“We have had close relations with our own Olney based Milton Keynes Theatre of Comedy who use us for rehearsals for their up and coming Ripping Yarns show. After rehearsals we would often chat to David Pibworth and other members of the cast and lament the lack of a light entertainment venue in the town. From this came the germ of the idea that the function room at The Bull could be taken over once a month by Fat Larryʼs to put on a stand up comedy night hopefully growing more frequent and also possibly extending to improvisation or jazz nights.”
James Lomax, landlord at The Bull explains:
Fat Larryʼs first night will be on Thursday 18th June, doors open from 8pm, with well known London comedians Kate Smurfwaite & Rik Moore together
