Beautiful new reading garden for Ousedale Olney Campus
On 7th May three members of the MK Lions basketball team came to the Olney Campus of Ousedale School to formally open the new reading garden. The garden was created as part of the work done by our Year 11 BTEC Horticulture students at the school, to provide a suitable location for a memorial bench for Ron Harding, who worked in the Technology department as well as to mark the National Year of Reading (2008). Barry Middleton of ‘Babylon Gardening’ worked with the students to create the garden.
The finished garden is a lovely, tranquil space, with plenty of seating, for the students to pursue quiet occupations such as reading or as a venue for small group lessons during fine weather.
After the opening ceremony the Lions spent time in the sports hall playing basketball with the students. The viewing gallery was packed as the Lions challenged selected students to a shoot-out, a game and finally a demonstration of the famous slam dunk.
Olney Raft Race 2009
A quick reminder that this year's Duck and Raft Races will be held on Sunday 28th June. We start with the Duck Race at 1.00pm at the weir in Emberton Park, then continue with the Raft Race at 2.00pm. The course runs downstream to the Swimming Steps where the first rafts should start to arrive at 2.30pm or so. At the finish, we've got entertainments, refreshments, a bar and a baby changing tent for those with very young ones.
