We would very much like to get involved in bringing music to all players young and old, experienced and beginners. There is more to playing music than in the school band.
I myself played Tenor Horn at school (30 years ago) but was not encouraged to carry on and play outside of the school band environment. I was fortunate that a friend of my father had a son in British Airways Brass Band and I was invited to go along. After my school years it was expected that without an instrument, I would probably give up music as just one of those activities that one does at school and that is that. I wanted to take my music one stage further and joined the army at 16 as a Junior Bandsman with The Parachute Regiment and as such travelled the world entertaining and being entertained with my hobby. By this time I was playing French Horn and further went on to play the Bb Bass. After leaving the army I returned to British Airways and then on via a couple of other bands to Wolverton Town Band.
This is the kind of picture we wish to paint for young musicians; that music can be a world widening form of entertainmant for both the listener and the player. Here at Wolverton Town Band, we very much encourage younger players or less experienced players, to come along and improve their musical skills with a regular Thursday evening tutoring session. To this end, we would like to invite anybody to come along. To introduce the younger or less experienced player to the bigger picture of entertainment through the medium of music.
We are all volunteers who not only enjoy producing quality music, but we love to socialise too. Each year we have a summer social as well as a Christmas get together where we reflect on the year that has passed.
Come and meet us on Thursday evenings in The Old Bath House (Wolverton Community Centre) between 7.15 and 8pm. We can provide an instrument if necessary and teach you to play from scratch if you like. We do not charge for this service. So “COME ON DOWN”

ORGANIST & CHOIR LEADER VACANCY
St Peter’s and St Paul’s Church Olney is seeking to appoint an Organist and Choir leader. We are an active parish with strong musical expectations, at ease with both traditional and contemporary music. We have a small but dedicated and able choir with weekly anthems and sung Eucharist. Your work will involve the oversight, with the Incumbent, of all music related matters and development in the parish. The church has a fine two manual organ, with 24 speaking stops, built by JJ Bins in 1907 using his patented tubular pneumatic action. The organ was completely restored in 2005.
RSCM rates negotiable plus fees.
