Sherington CE School News
Our Spring Term ended on a very positive note with a lovely display of Easter Bonnets on parade followed by some exciting decorated egg-rolling. Prizes were provided by the steadfast PTFA.
Our student teacher from The University of Bedford, Miss Sarah Glover, begins her main block of teaching experience with our Reception children having successfully completed the early stage with merit.
For our class topics this first half-term we will range from investigating ‘forces and movement’ and ‘vehicle’ (Science & DT), ‘seaside holidays in the past’ (History), ‘visiting a place of worship’ (RE) in Years 1& 2 to studying ‘minibeasts’, ‘art from nature and natural forms’ and ‘growing plants at school and home’ across all ages.
A busy summer term is in prospect starting with our Maypole Dancing contribution to the village Mayday Festival on the Knoll on Monday 4th May at 11.00am. Please come and cheer the children on.
Olney Raft Race 2009
The Olney Group proudly presents this year’s raft race, to be held on Sunday 28th June. We’re keen to encourage entrants of all standards. For instance, you might enter to raise sponsorship for a local group or school, to beat your rival pub or maybe just for fun! Previous entries have included a raft resembling a wardrobe, one made entirely of lashed together lorry inner tubes and, beating all- comers last year, racing to the finish in a time of just 25 minutes, the young Gafros team – see http://www.youtube.com/user/raftrace08champions
The day starts with the Duck Race, starting at 1.00pm at the weir in
Emberton Park, where there’ll be refreshments plus a PA system laid on for the race commentary. Once the ducks have done their thing, attention will turn to the raft race, starting from the weir at 2.00pm. The course runs downstream to the Swimming Steps where, with good luck and a following wind, the first rafts should start to arrive at 2.30pm or so. As well as cheering the rafts as they arrive, we've got entertainments, more refreshments and a bar planned for you at the finish, plus a baby changing tent for those with very young ones.
