The Olney Group (TOG)
The Olney Group is now well up and running, having organised several events and having a bank account and constitution. Thus, as intended, the Council voted to transfer the monies passed to it following the demise of Olney Floral Fiesta to the new group.
Driftway
Rather as one might eagerly await the next episode of Eastenders or, alternatively, a quality TV drama this regular agenda item is usually of interest.
Tony Evans explained that he was pleased to see that the Driftway verges had been cut back, paid for out of the £2,000 taken from Wimpey's deposit, but disappointed that nothing else had been done. In particular, he was keen to see the verge areas around the Yardley Road roundabout restored with topsoil and grass planting. Following on from the injurious weeds topic reported last month, he noted that Stephen Gillions (MKC’s Highways Adoptions Engineer) had said this had nothing to do with MKC being, instead, the responsibility of Wimpey. However, as nothing appeared to be being done to force Wimpey to sort the problems out, he asked if Councillors were prepared to
sit back and see nothing happen or whether they wished to do something about it.
David Rumens suggested inviting David Gillions to the next Council meeting to ask him what could be done. Debbie Brock pointed out that the work cutting back the verges had been done in direct response to her intervention, that she was trying to get things sorted out and that she'd not have it said that she wasn’t doing anything. Tony Evans explained that he wasn’t criticising Debbie but, instead, MKC.
After further discussion, Councillors agreed to invite Stephen Gillions to the next meeting.
Housing development
David Rumens had viewed the latest South East plan, open for consultation until 24th October, and noticed a change in that there’s now a strategic development area to the North Eastern side of Newport Pagnell and East of the M1. He said this was earmarked for around 5,600 houses, around twice those in Olney, by 2026.
Anti-social behaviour
A letter in July’s Phonebox Magazine concerning anti-social behaviour provoked a strong reaction on the letters pages of August's magazine. Chris Ford had picked up on this and asked if the Council could
invite pupils from Ousedale School to a Council meeting so they could give their views on the problems and suggest ways to sort them out. This was agreed and Chris volunteered to liaise with the children to start the process. K
