News from Lavendon School
Lavendon School New Playground
Work began on our outside area refurbishment early on the morning of 21 January. Staff and children were both excited and amazed at how quickly the huge digger ploughed through the concrete slabs and pathways around the side of the school. The original steps and side area were dug up and flattened so quickly, the steps were gone in minutes; the area was then levelled and filled with gravel. The logs for the fencing and walkways were next to arrive; they were unloaded onto the front grassed area. No sooner had the wooden poles arrived than they were being erected to form the pathway, and the boundary fence for the early years play area. The main pathway leading into the school was laid over half term and was admired by all who used it on the first day back. The work is just about completed now and the areas at the front and side of the school look much improved, all staff, parents and children are delighted with the finished result. We are hoping to have an official opening of the area in the near future.
Africa Week
The school celebrated Africa Week from 11 – 14 February. During this week we were lucky to be able to loan a large variety of drums and other tuneful items from MK Music Service and the Toy Library which gave the children hands on experience of making music with a range of bright unusual instruments.
We were also fortunate in having a visit to school from Rachael and Brian Linton from the Olney- Newton link. Children and staff were interested to hear the fascinating accounts of life in Sierra Leone and learnt much about life in a small African village.
Michael Farrer Award
The entries for this years Michael Farrer award are expected back at school on Monday 3 March. This year the children have been asked to write a story. The stories will be judged by Ron Blomfield from the Royal British Legion. The award presentation is due to take place on Friday 28 of March and will be attended by local MP Mark Lancaster.
Easter Bunny Bounce
The Lavendon School Association organised an Easter Bunny Bounce at school on Thursday 20 March. This is always a popular event for all children in school, I don’t think we have ever had many staff in the queue, though!
