Windfarm Update
The planning meeting for the Windfarm at Petsoe has been published as 17th December at 7:30 pm at the Civic Offices in Milton Keynes. This is a special meeting of the Development Control Committee so the only application to be heard that night will be the Wind Farm. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend, to listen to the comments made and to demonstrate to the committee the strength of views of local people. The application for the wind farm at Nunn Wood, although submitted just before the Petsoe application, is still under consideration and will take more months yet. When I have any more information, I will report it in future columns.
Registrar Services
Over recent months the service offered by the Registrar whereby births and deaths can be registered at satellite offices at stated times in Olney, or indeed Newport Pagnell or Wolverton has ceased. This is a concern that has been raised with me by local midwives, new Mums and representatives of the
National Childbirth Trust. The Registrar’s Office in Fenny Stratford, is not the easiest location to reach if you have to travel by bus, least of all if you are travelling with a new born baby and possibly other siblings. Registering a birth in particular must be done within six weeks of the child’s birth or face a fine – coincidentally if your baby is born by caesarean section you may not drive for six weeks. At November’s Full Council meeting in Milton Keynes I raised the matter in a question to the Cabinet member responsible and was told that due to the way in which information now has to be processed, technical difficulties had been experienced with the new system. I was informed that full services to the outlying areas should be resumed “by the end of the Calendar Year.” Difficulties experienced by Olney ward residents have previously been raised with the Registrar’s Office, so it is with relief that we shall hopefully welcome the resumption of services shortly.
Lavendon/Warrington – Olney Cycle Path Update
Following the meeting of the North East Area Forum, representations to me and direct
contact with people in Milton Keynes Council, a feasibility study is now going to be conducted which will cover routes and potential costs. This moves the project one stage further forward although it is still early days. I have been pushing for this path in various forums since I got elected to the council and although the wheels in MK turn very slowly finding the funding for this is something I am fully committed to.
Probation Service Project
Further to efforts previously posted here, the probation service were brought in to help smarten up the Council garages at Oakdown Crescent. The garage doors were painted, the garages themselves cleared through and the ‘jungle’ of undergrowth removed. An area to the back of Weston Road was also cleared exposing a troublesome drain, a source of received complaints which will now be cleared.
Olney Campus Inquiry
The Olney Campus inquiry is nearing completion. I will publish an overview of the report at the first available opportunity in this column, however if you have any further
