Olney return to the top
league!
There was great news for Olney Tennis Club at the end of the summer season. Its Mens A team has returned to Division One after finishing second in Division Two. They had to play their last three games in August and they beat Great Linford, drew with Buckingham and lost their only match of the season against the eventual league winners, Open University. The Olney players who played this summer’s successful campaign were: Frederic Guilmard. Bob Allen, Mark Nield, Dave Tarry, Mike MacDonnell, Les Folds, Angus Maitland and Paul Hargreaves.
This news was the icing on the cake for Olney’s highly successful season that saw the Mens B team win Division Three and the Ladies A and B teams finishing an excellent third in their divisions. And most significantly, we have never had so many players representing the club, reflecting its increased membership and open policy in giving players of all standards the chance to represent Olney.
Olney Junior wins MK title!
The future of Olney tennis looks in safe hands after Olney’s Tom Guilmard beat a strong field to win the Milton Keynes U12 Knockout Cup. Tom collected his trophy at a prizegiving held at Stony
Stratford club in September. He also collected the trophy won by his U12 team in the winter for Division B. Olney holds Club Finals
Ten Finals were held over a weekend in September and there were some great matches and some new Champions. Here are the results: Mens Singles Frederic Guilmard beat Mark Nield; Ladies Singles Clare Gott beat Gill Hogston; Mens Doubles Mike MacDonnell and Les Folds beat Bob and Matt Allen; Ladies Doubles Clare Gott and Gill Hogston beat Eleanor Carter and Anne Foulkes; Mixed Doubles Mark Nield and Gill Clare Gott beat Mike MacDonnell and Gill Hogston; Mixed Doubles Plate Emma and Simon Barter beat Clare Chapman and Alistair White; Junior Boys Singles Ian Niblett beat John Reed; Junior Girls Singles Sian Foulkes beat Sarah Fenton; Junior Boys Doubles Tom Guilmard and Ian Niblett beat Robbie Bacon and Sam Baker; Junior Girls Doubles Sarah Fenton and Sarah Barr beat Rachel and Helen Swift. Prizegiving Social is being held in Olney on Sat 12 October. The cups will be presented but this is also meant to be a social get together for all members.
