Need an idea for your Christmas party?
If you’re planning your Christmas staff party or friends get-together how about coming along to Stoke Goldington Pre-School’s Autumn Ball? The black tie, dinner-dance event is taking place on Saturday
17th November at The Mitchell Hall, Cranfield and promises to be a brilliant evening.
The Autumn Ball will feature a three-course sit-down meal and dancing through to the early hours to a live jazz band. There will also be a casino to try your hand at playing the tables, a raffle featuring some fantastic prizes and some table games. Tickets cost £40.00 per head and table wine is included in the ticket price. The evening kicks off at 7.30pm for 8.00pm with carriages at 1.00am.
The event is a major fundraiser for Stoke Goldington Pre-School which needs to raise much needed funds to continue to provide its high standards of care and attention for two to four year olds. The Pre-School runs five mornings each week in Stoke Goldington Village Hall from 9.15am to 12.15pm, featuring spacious premises both indoor and out with the emphasis on fun and friendship in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
For tickets telephone Pre-School chairman Elly Sapwell on 01908 551175.

Lavendon Village Annual Show raises funds for Village Hall
Records indicate that the first Show took place in 1943, so allowing for the odd one being cancelled, this was at least the 60th.
Eighty eight exhibitors submitted over 250 entries spread over 106 classes. Most people entered just one exhibit, but Harold Battison put in 22, Kath Collins 21, Florence Welsh 8, Martin Alcock 14 and Peter Lofts 9. What feats of planning and organisation!
Ten trophies were awarded and in addition to the first three mentioned above, the other trophy winners were David Parker, Pat Braybrook, Derek Huckle, Matilda Rodwell, Martha Stock and John Salter. There was no winner for the Shield for 11-15 year olds as there was sadly not one single entrant for any of the nine classes. We will need to do some serious thinking as to how we can attract this pool of talent next year.
The judges were very fulsome in their praise for the exhibits in all the categories and this included the Children’s sections for 2-4s, 5-7s and 8-10s.
Although the main aim of the Show is to provide a rare opportunity for people from Lavendon and surrounding villages to showcase their various skills and for visitors to meet and enjoy a traditional, village event, the Show did raise just over £500, which has been donated to the Village Hall fund and will go some way to help meet the thousands of pounds required to maintain this facility, so that various groups can use it during the year.
The final event was the auction and Pete Mann used his powers of persuasion to sell off the prize-winning flowers, the fresh vegetables, an MOT voucher and a luxury leather bag, all at bargain prices, raising over £240 in the process.
On behalf of the committee, Pete thanked the judges for their expertise, the sponsors for their generosity, the helpers for their unstinting help, the exhibitors for their praiseworthy efforts and the numerous visitors, who had brought the whole Show to life. K
