The Olney Raft Race 2007
Hi folks
I make no apology for suspending the Raft Race last month. The river was, to be quite frank, downright dangerous. We kept an eye on it the week previous to the race and at the point when the decision had to be made to cancel or not, there was only nine inches between the 'Planks bridge' and the water!
Those of you who know the river will appreciate how unpredictable it is, indeed, as I write this in late July, the water is lapping against the footings of the new cricket pavillion.
However, never defeated, I propose that Sunday September 2nd is the revised date for the event, River Great Ouse permitting of course.
We will have all the usual attractions, and maybe a few more.

Dear Editor
Promise Auction 29th June 2007
On behalf of the parents, children and staff of Olney Infant School, I would like to offer a sincere thank you for the promise that you donated to last week’s auction.
We were able to raise in excess of £4,500 towards a new Adventure Trail at the school and without the support of local businesses such as yourselves this would not have been possible.
Many thanks for your continuing support of our school.

Dear Editor
Through the pages of Phonebox Magazine, I'd like to thank my many friends and neighbours in Olney (including members of Olney Inebriates and Olney Rugby Club) for their generous sponsorship of my climb up Snowdon on 21st June 2007. This was six months to the day after I had an urgent (and completely unexpected) heart bypass operation at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford at the relatively young age of 47.
My fundraising endeavours will have raised in excess of £3,300 to help other heart patients who may be less fortunate than myself. Approximately 75% of the money will go to the British Heart Foundation (www.bhf.org.uk) and 25% to Milton Keynes Community Cardiac Group (www.mkcardiacgroup.org) who encourage local heart patients to exercise more and to live a healthier lifestyle.
People can read more about our Snowdon adventure at www.myluckyheart.blogspot.com.
I know that I am a very lucky man! I will be forever grateful to my family and friends, and to the paramedics, doctors, nurses and ancillary staff that helped me when I was ill, and for all the support during my recuperation. Thank you so much.
David Kelsall, Olney
