News from the Lavendon School Association
We have had a relatively quiet few months, but the summer term is usually quite busy both for the children at school and with our fundraising events, and this one is no exception.
On Sunday 10th June we are holding an event, which we are hoping will not only raise money for the school, but help everyone get more active by walking around the village. We will be holding a Penny Mile, where we mark a one mile circuit around the village, and ask people to place their pennies along the route. The event starts at 10.30am, when the first pennies will be laid, and we aim to complete the route before 4pm. As well as walking the circuit, there will be a mini-fete, with lots of different stalls and good things to eat. Why not come along and lay down a few of those coppers that you always seem to collect in bags or pockets, and don’t know what to do with.
Also later in June, we have a catwalk for the children, where they strut their stuff in some trendy new gear, and hopefully their proud parents buy the outfits for them. We’ve held the event a few times now, and the children enjoy getting into the spirit of the event.
Then on July 14th we are holding a disco and Hog Roast to celebrate the end of the School Year.
For any further details on any of these events, please contact me – Jo Bedward - telephone: 241065.
Copy deadline for July issue of Phonebox Magazine is 15th June

Stoke Goldington’s big day
The weekend had passed and there was an air of licking the wounds as I sat in The Lamb brooding what might be said to sound cheerful. The rains had come for the days as the exhibitors for the Steam Rally struggled to get up the slope to the ground. The grass had been churned to mud and the mud became deeply rutted. The rains continued and drove away most of those who might have visited the great show. In spite of this I had found the exhibitors bravely smiling through as I traipsed around and we did all get one acceptable reward. The rain held off in good time for a splendid fireworks show. Following the fireworks we called to the beer tent where a wall of amplifiers well nigh deafened me; I’m an old fuddy-duddy perhaps, certainly my friend enjoyed leaping about in time with the sounds and so did a host of others but I still reckon the sound was far too loud. So there was I on Monday evening in The Lamb wondering what to say.
Mal Chapman of Norwich was exhibiting for the first time and admitted to losing out over the weekend but he was smiling at me. From experience of other country rallies and fairs he had seen the sheer organisation of this one as the best he had met. Mal remarked on the tractor corps assembled to aid the up-hill climb at the approach across the mud to well staked out positions. Mal has shared our climate with us for all his years, “Yes” he said, “the weather is a gamble, some you win and some you lose.” Lose or no lose Mal has already determined to come again next year to support the best run show he knows of.
Mal, your verdict cheered me up no end. Thank you, and yes I’ll be along again so we’ll share another pint. Geoff Bacchus
