3rd Newport Pagnell Scout Group
Be prepared to have fun and make friends
Have you ever noticed the Scout Hall in have been doing at the Hall, such as arts As is the case with all charitable
the corner of Middleton swimming pool car park, next door to the new community centre and wondered what happens there, now is your chance to find out.
The newly refurbished Hall is used by a Beaver pack (age 6-8) on Wednesday, 6.15-7.30pm, a Cub pack (age 8-10+) on Monday, 6.30-8.00pm and a Scout pack (age 10+) on Thursday, 7.00-9.00pm
For those of you who don’t have a young son you may think that it is of no relevance to you... WRONG, as the Scout movement applies equally to girls as it does to boys. For those who think that you must be a Christian and a churchgoer to be accepted... WRONG, as the Scout movement welcomes and encourages children of all faiths and denominations!
The 3rd Newport Pagnell Scout Hall is a lively and active place for children. Its scheduling of events throughout the year provide the children with the opportunity to participate in activities that they may not otherwise experience, and in some cases extend and enhance what they are learning at school. As they earn their various activity badges they are building their self confidence and skills.
So far, the Beaver group have undertaken a night hike, a sleepover, at which the TA was present, a pizza making trip to Prego’s, and a pond dipping session
at the Hanson Environmental Centre. This is in addition to all the other things that they
and crafts, science and geography evenings, and putting on a talent show. Future events include a trip to the Quarries, to learn how to pitch a tent, and a nature walk.
The Cub group has also been equally busy. This year the Cubs have been working towards their science, cooking and world
faith badges. This saw them undertaking various science projects such as making a
anemometer, how to make the perfect paper aeroplane and a rain gauge. In cookery the Cubs learnt how to ice a Christmas cake, make peppermint creams and chocolate truffles. Future activities include building a fire to cook and make hot drinks, basic first aid, road safety, map reading and hiking, ending off with a treasure hunt.
Last, but by no means least the Scouts. So far, they have been busy doing their Global Environment Badges and
have spent the last few
weeks updating their
culinary skills! They will
now be spending their
time putting this theory into practice and will focus on backwards cooking (campfire cooking). Ray Mears watch out!
All this is in addition to the parades and other optional activities run by the Scouting Association.
The one thing that we do promise, is that you will never collect a sad unhappy child after a session.
organisations, it is only possible for the Scout movement to operate with the help of volunteers. Would you like to become involved? Maybe you were once a Scout and look back upon it with fond memories? Maybe you’re young, keen and energetic? Maybe you’re a little older and experienced? Maybe you have a particular skill to offer, such as orienteering, sailing, sport, first aid, science, nature, cooking... or maybe you just enjoy working with children, are training to be a teacher or would simply like to contribute to the community... the list of possibilities are endless!
If any of these apply to you then maybe you could offer your help for one or two specific topics or could you help on a weekly or monthly basis? Could you be the person to help with administrative duties or would you welcome the challenge to be a Leader. The more help the lesser the workload. In return the 3rd promises to provide you with all the support and training you need. Your input would be greatly appreciated by the fellow volunteers and children alike.
Don’t just leave it to someone else! These children need inspirational, generous, enthusiastic adults to provide them with the opportunities they may not otherwise have. If you are interested in your child joining or if you have a few spare hours a week please ring 07905 915642 or email newport.3rd_scouts@yahoo.co.uk K
