Councillor Corner
A contribution from Councillor Debbie Brock
TRAFFIC REVIEW
Thank you to all residents who responded to my article on Olney’s forthcoming Traffic Review last month, I have forwarded all the points raised to the officer responsible for conducting the review of Olney.
100th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
On December 16th, I had the privilege of visiting Rose Stock on the very special occasion of her hundredth birthday. Mr Mark Lancaster MP read out Rose’s special wishes from HM the Queen and afterwards family, staff, residents and helpers of Broomfield Residential Home all had great pleasure in celebrating with Rose her immense achievement.
ROAD WORKS
Many residents will doubtless be affected by road works in the coming months. At the area surrounding Junction 14 of the M1, improvements to relieve congestion are soon to come into effect, if you would like more information and you have access to the internet, visit www.mkweb.co.uk/roadworks. Closer to home, from the end of January until approx. mid February the installation of cabling at Hoppers Hill, Olney will mean localised difficulties for road users.
The roundabout on Yardley Road is to be remodelled by contractors to achieve the link with Driftway and for users of Lime Street a partial one-way system will shortly be the subject of letters to those most affected.
CONTOL DRINKING ZONES
At a meeting of the Regulatory Committee at MK Council in December, the first official step was taken to make the parish of Olney a Drinking Control Area. Sitting on this Committee I was pleased to support the request, as it eventually, if implemented, will give Police additional powers to deal with drink fuelled antisocial behaviour in public spaces.
Whilst not being the golden bullet to solve all the anti social behaviour the town experiences, this could help.
THE OLNEY CAMPUS
Further to my report last month, my motion requesting an independent inquiry is carried out to investigate the delays into the Olney Campus building project was unanimously carried at Full Council in Milton Keynes in January. I was very pleased that my first major contribution at a Full Council meeting was on
such an important
issue. The inquiry is
tasked to look into all aspects concerning the Campus project and will report its findings late autumn. Furthermore all Councillors acknowledged that poor communication with parents and school governors should be apologised for.
WASTE DEVELOPMENT PLAN
Shortly the MK Waste Development Plan will be consulted upon, this will give interested residents the opportunity to read up and respond to the proposals. All comments received will be considered at a Public Examination by an Independent Inspector. This is your chance to have your say in how Milton Keynes disposes of its waste.
For more information see www.mkweb.co.uk/localplanreview or e-mail yourwaste@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
EXPANSION
You may have read about plans for 12 500 new homes to be built around the villages of Moulsoe and North Crawley. This is merely one proposal that has been suggested by a consultant working for Bucks County Council and Aylesbury Vale District Council. It runs totally contrary to other proposals being considered by the Milton Keynes Partnership Committee and was unanimously rejected by all Councillors at the Full Council Meeting in January. It was also agreed on the night that the forthcoming Council Meeting in February be dedicated to the debate about the Expansion of Milton Keynes.
I intend to defend our rural area against enforced expansion.
My monthly surgery will resume this month on Friday February 2nd, I will be at the Olney Centre as usual from 7.30pm until 8.30pm – but please do not hesitate to get in touch with me at any time, if you feel I can be of any assistance.
