YOUNG ENTERPRISE: Wellingborough Area Trade Fair
In December five companies from Wellingborough School took part in the Wellingborough Area Trade Fair held at the Swansgate shopping centre. Nine Young Enterprise companies in total grasped the opportunity to sell their products to the public and capitalise on the Christmas market.
Councillor Tim Allebone attended the fair with the President of the Chamber of Commerce, David Cross and was very over whelmed by the standard achieved by all the companies and their impressive business skills. Business Advisers supported their companies as well as the Wellingborough Young Enterprise Board and everyone treated as a potential customer. Wellingborough School swept the board by winning all three prizes.
The Best overall company, “So very.....” were congratulated on their Professional Business. Abi Burt the Managing Director was delighted that their hard work had paid dividends and as well as making some profit they had worked well as a team. The company is selling bag hooks (linked to a national campaign that Womens’ handbags contain bacteria), Mp 3 splitters and hand crafted coasters and key rings. Mike Bedford- Stradling, their adviserwas delighted but also enjoyed watching them develop their selling skills.
The prize for the Best Trade Stand went to “Reflect” a company who are raising the awareness of road safety within the county by selling reflective wear that appeals to young people whether running, walking or cycling. Their campaign has involved working with Northamptonshire County Council and they have even had media coverage on BBC radio. Andrew Line the Managing Director and his team created a fabulous display and Brian Wrigley their adviser was thrilled to see them pick up the award.
“Pipe Dream” won the Best Product with their Antique Drain Pipes that they had sourced from a local company, cleaned and painted before filling with
plants. Their initiative went further by selling bath salts that they had scented and packaged either in jars or as cakes. Managing Director, Cameron Ellson was delighted as they had won a prize at the Northampton Trade fair the week before for their trade stand. Paul Blunt their adviser was pleased that all their hard work and enthusiasm was being rewarded.
Wellingborough School’s “Dress 2 Impress” did impress the judges with their company as they have worked with Wellingborough Borough Council to create stickers for the Wheelie bins helping us to recycle correctly. They have also developed fun stickers for our bins. The company “Remix” may not have won prizes but they were full of enthusiasm and sold lots of cards, cushions and lamp shades which added to the enjoyment of the morning. n
