Parklife Festival -
A free live music festival...for the love of music
After arguing that there was nothing a Feed back community spirit into
locally that showcases the young musicians in the area – Parklife was born.
This, in 2002, gave Ryan Pink six weeks to put together something which grew into a successful town festival, with a crowd of 300, watching eight local music acts.
Appeals to the local media for more bands and solo acoustic players meant that 2003 saw 22 acts on two stages, playing to around 1,200 people for free. Through this and other local music and skate projects, organiser Ryan Pink, won BBC "MK Hero" award 2003. He won a Whitbread "National Young Achiever of the Year" award 2003, and was made an honouree member of the Royal Society of Arts. Following this, Ryan has set up Rusty Promotions to promote a better understanding and appreciation of local artists and musicians.
Leon Hudston has spent the last 15 years playing in bands in and around the local area and faced the same frustrations as many musicians when it came to outlets for his music. With a few contacts in local establishments, he started putting on small events for himself and other local musicians. After returning from a tour of Europe in 2004 he and Ryan got together and now Leon has become a Co-manager of Rusty promotions and Parklife.
Leon is also undertaking an HND in music production at Northampton Nene University, and building good relations with Northampton based promoters to build a communication between the Northampton and Milton Keynes music scenes, and enable cross promotion.
WHY PARKLIFE?
There is so much talent swimming around the local area. They just need a stage for people to appreciate what a cultural area they live in, so Parklife Festival has the following aims:
a Raise the profile of local music and arts
Newport Pagnell and a sense of togetherness in the community
a Introduce people to new cultures, ideas and hobbies
THIS YEAR’S FESTIVAL
On Saturday 29th July 12pm – 9pm, Parklife will open its gates for the fifth year, showcasing quality new and vibrant music. Two music stages, set in a natural grass auditorium, surrounded by trees, and overlooking a tranquil river: Ousebank Gardens (High St, Newport Pagnell – directions on the website) seems like the perfect setting. This is interspersed with stalls, world food vendors, the all-new kid’s field, a spoken word and performance stage, an arts gallery, a one-man theatre and a live arts area.
As we’re finishing earlier this year, the festivities carry on throughout the town – these will be announced at Parklife.
For the main stages, Parklife has booked around 20 live acts from rock, reggae, soul, blues to acoustic singer song writers.
...come and relax in the sun, all for the grand entrance fee of nothing!
Without a number of supporters then this festival couldn’t go on:
Hobgoblin Music Shop, Milton Keynes Council, Newport Pagnell Town Council, Newport Pagnell Festival Committee, The Swan Revived Hotel, Roy Pink Cycles, Speedy Hire, Planet Earth Landscapes, Northampton Nene University, The Performin Rooms, Phase-one.net photographic, Dave Boddy Electrical, The Lodge Recording Studio, Counters Direct, Ark Developments, Dave Currie ...and many other people’s free time and support for the community of Newport Pagnell ... we love you all.
