Newport Pagnell WI
The May meeting of the Newport Pagnell WI proved both stimulating and relaxing. Imaginations
were stimulated when debating the two WI resolutions. Eventually the vote was in favour of both; to advocating implementation of sustainable energies (i.e. ditch the fossil fuels and use solar and wind power etc.) And promoting sport for all to improve the nation’s health. Which brings us to the relaxing part. Tracey Oak, who was the evening’s speaker, demonstrated how to use ‘stress management to give headaches the heave-ho, joint pains the push and turn off tension. She wasn’t short on volunteers (though she had Mum in tow just in case) for her shoulder, neck and reflexology massage; during which she dispensed useful tips for ‘do-it-yourself (or get-your-partner-to-do-it)’ sessions. Her free samples of herbal tea, small ‘seeds’ and needles on the ‘Shenman Point’ in the ear, all to help you relax and promote a good night’s sleep, were also gratefully received by the many insomniacs present. Members are now queuing to book a one hour long treatment at her salon.
The competition for ‘An Old Wives Remedy’ was won by Cynthia Stevens (with ‘soak your chilblains in your own urine to get rid of them’ – thank goodness it wasn’t someone else’s).
June’s speaker is Mr James Cuming giving a talk on 'Naffi to Nissen Huts’. The competition is for ‘A Wartime Recipe’.
We meet at 7.30pm on every second Tuesday of each month at Brooklands Club, Ousebank Street, Newport Pagnell, visitors are welcome. d
