The end of the season saw Olney Town FC battling on all fronts with games coming thick and fast! Why is this unusual? Well the fact that the Saturday 1st Team have staged a remarkable turn around from the previous season when they finished second from bottom of the UCL Division 1, to going into the last game fighting for 6th position and the Reserve side fighting for promotion only to be undone by having to play 11 games in April! And throughout the season both sides have had good cup runs
However, the trophy cabinet was not left bare and the Sunday 1st Team has just secured their 1st Premier League title-well deserved for a nucleus of players who turn out week after week on both Saturday and Sunday!
2005/2006 has been a great year for the club both one and off the field. It began with a group of players and coaches beginning their FA Coaching qualifications and bringing back to the club a wide range of new skills, and the programme of ensuring that our coaches have all the training they need will continue again this year-and we were rewarded with a great start to the season! Special mention must go to Andrew Griffin, Danny Munday, Mark Kerr, Jason Cole, Guy Stewart and Malcolm Thomas for making this happen as
well as a great backroom effort by the main committee.
Having put a plan in place for on the field the club turned its attention to matters off the field. In the autumn the club embarked upon a consultation programme with both local residents and the Town Council and this has resulted in the formal granting of planning permission for floodlights for both the main pitch and a training area-our thanks go to our local residents and the Council for working on this with us and securing the future of top level football in Olney for many years to come!
In addition the club have also decided to push ahead with the redevelopment of the changing rooms and a clubhouse facelift
which will allow us to create a real home for not only the core sides but also our fast growing Colts (150 plus!) and Ladies teams.
Naturally all the plans will come at a cost and although it is anticipated that the various funding bodies such as the Football Foundation and Lottery will be required the club is now raising
its profile to secure further funding from the private sector. We have a number of key sponsors-2creation.com, Weston Engineering, Parceline and Cyclosports who have played a key role in our development in 2005/2006 but we will be launching a number of further initiatives e.g. programme advertising, kit and equipment sponsorship. We also have the 200 Club with great cash prizes drawn each month! So if you would like to support a club going places please do not hesitate to contact us-Paul Tough 07764 183485.
In addition to the football side we also have a strong social scene and will be redecorating the clubhouse during the summer (after the World Cup!) so if you would like to hire the facility for functions please call us!
