New revamped ‘tip’
The North Crawley Road ‘tip’, or Community Recycling Centre (CRC) to give it its proper name, has just undergone a major revamp. Following the major upgrade, funded by Milton Keynes Council, the site has expanded into the old Lorry Park next door and has a completely new layout. Instead of a handful of cars squeezing into a cramped site, using the same entrance to get in and out, the new expanded site has a separate entrance and exit.
Gone are the long queues on North Crawley Road as the CRC now has enough room to accommodate 20 cars on the new site. A much needed road safety improvement.
The new layout allows vehicles to access the new bunker style 'tip'. The bunkers are approx. one metre high allowing residents to tip the various types of waste into the bunker and in turn allow the staff at the ‘tip’ to sort through and ensure that the materials are separated into the appropriate bins. Staff are also available to assist with anyone that needs a hand. By having the bunkers in this way, this will mean that the site will not
have to temporarily close whilst tamping down the bins and that the service vehicles will have their own loading area and access/egress via the old Lorry Park entrance.
The new layout will not only be easier and more convenient for residents, but will help
push recycling rates up
even higher. Milton
Keynes’ residents currently recycle about a third of their waste and it is hoped to reclaim even more than the current 60% from the CRCs.
Even better than recycling is to reuse and the CRC will include a new STAR (Second Time ARound) shop selling salvaged goods.
All in all a much improved facility for the residents of Newport Pagnell and surrounding villages. d
