May 2012 is on the streets now ... and on the web...

May's Editorial
Things are certainly hotting up at the moment and it's not just the weather! The controversy continues over the proposed development behind Dinglederry in Olney and it looks as if it may well continue for a while yet. Read about it in this month's Mercury column: page 42.
May has always been a month when things start to happen, and this one is no exception, the annual Stoke Goldington Steam Rally is upon us – not an event to be missed. The Rugby season may be finishing but there are still plenty of events on to keep you busy:
page 16.
Bowls season sees Open Days in the area. Why not go along to your local club and experience the pleasure of bowling?
On the music scene Andante visit Olney Baptist Church and on a more sober note Booze on the Ouse 2012 is fundrasing for Olney Town Colts Football Club:
page 37.
Yardley Hastings are having a May Market and Newport Pagnell and District Probus Club, having settled into their new venue, are open for members:
page 24.
Newport Pagnell Town Council are holding a Jubilee Picnic Lunch early next month with a Town Service the day before (page 26) and their Annual Report is featured on page 65. Newport’s Swimming Club (dare I mention anything about swimming pools) is also in the news – and to crown it all the blue bells are out on page 28.
Novelists who have always wanted to write have succeeded as have Ringers who have wanted to ring, read about them inside. We also have the Diamond Jubilee Bell featured inside.
Details of Earls Barton Festival of Transport are on
page 32 with part one of a Biography by Peter Kitchener, on his grandfather Maurice Thomas Kitchener of Newport Pagnell and Olney, starting on page 48.
So with all of that, and a lot more inside the mag why not delve in and decide what you’re going to get up to during May?
No wonder there’s a demand for more housing in the area!!
